Review of Resound Alera Hearing Aids

by Jan

My fourth set of hearing aids, Resound Alera, BTE, size 10 battery. Not only can I not hear well but the battery drain is ridiculous.

Best battery life I've ever had is two days, but very erratic, sometimes going dead in a few hours...even minutes....and I have tried every brand of battery. Makes no difference. No one has found an answer.

Worst $5800 ever spent, not to mention money wasted on batteries. I would never purchase a Resound product again. Very poor customer service.

Mercury Free Hearing Aid Batteries
by: Ron Allander

Jan,

I have had several patients that have had the same problem as you with their hearing aid batteries lasting only a few days. After discussing the problem with them we discovered that they were removing the tab on the hearing aid batteries and immediately placing the batteries in their hearing aids.

Most of the hearing aid batteries manufactured today are Mercury Free. The Mercury Free hearing aid batteries need at least 1 to 2 minutes to fully activate once the tab has been removed. So once you remove the tab, wait at least a minute or so before placing the battery in your hearing aid. The oxygen in the air activates the battery once the tab is removed. If placed in the hearing aid too soon, it will cause the hearing aid to give a low battery indication prematurely.

If this does not work, I would recommend returning to your audiologist or hearing instrument specialist and have them return the hearing aids to ReSound for repair.
